Looking back at almost three years of radio-ministry in the French language, I can only – once more – look with amazement at how great our Triune God is : He has made it possible for us to start from South Africa, with the spiritual and material support of Christian brothers and sisters from North America, a Reformed ministry directed towards Francophone men and women around the world. This segment of the world population has been largely ignored by many Protestant, and more specifically Reformed, mission organizations or churches.
That our effort is still being blessed by our Lord, despite many practical difficulties, is evident from the reactions which we receive after our radio-broadcasts have been on the air. Angeline M., from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, recently e-mailed the following to us : « Dear Pastor, I have discovered your programmes and your Internet address through Radio Fréquence-Vie in Ivory Coast ; I like very much the quality of your messages and the content of your teachings. It contributes to strenghten my faith and to believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is really the Savior of the World, and that without his help, we are nothing. So for a week I have been connecting myself on your website in order to learn more about the Word of God… » This e-mail confirms that our website is a powerful instrument for the proclamation of God’s Word, not only for Europeans, but also for Africans.
Another correspondent from Ivory Coast, Michel S., writes us the most moving letter, which I want to quote at length: « I received with great joy the parcel with books and documents which you sent me. I would like to sincerely thank you for the great efforts you make in order to spread the Word of God through the world, so that suffering souls would be liberated and healed. Every time I listen to you on the radio, I feel comforted and I discover more and more the God whom I worship. Pastor, I say thousand times thank you (…) In 1990, I lost my job in Abidjan and I decided to come back to my home town, in order to start some farming activities. In 1999, in the middle of all the difficulties I was going through, I lost my wife during the delivery. I was left on my own with four children. The newborn was entrusted to a Christian couple, friends of mine (he is doing fine at the moment). I say all this to tell you that if I did not have God as only help and comfort I would have become insane. Be assured that your work is bearing good fruit ; these edifying and comforting means which you display, are the best. May God bless you, may He bless your works ; may He give you strength by the power of the Holy Spirit so that many hearts may be transformed ; may He lengthen your stay on earth ».
Our ministry is full of surprises. Upon my return from the USA end of October, I found an e-mail from a station in Antananarivo (capital of Madagascar) which acknowledged receipt of our tapes more than two years after they were sent : « I am writing in order to ask you to send us the tapes of your programmes; the samples you sent arrived here, but with much delay. I am very thankful for this shipment, because the broadcasting of this material is very encouraging and enriching for our Christian listeners from Antananarivo ». According to missionaries who work in the northern part of the « Big Island », Madagascar is more and more dominated economically by Muslims who come from other islands of the Indian ocean (like the Comores) and disempower the local population. We look forward to hear about more Christian radio stations being erected there, so that we may help spreading the liberating Gospel of Jesus Christ, both for local Christians and for Muslims settlers.
Let us remember that in a time of « wars and rumors of wars », especially where a clash of civilizations and of religions is evoked by the media, our main weapon remains a message inspired by the Spirit of the Almighty God ; let us remember who is the true and only King of our lives and of the world. Everything indicates that this world is in decay. Still, we know by faith that the same world is called to repent and bow before the authority of its Creator. We await the total renewal of all things, and we rejoice when we read about the signs of this regeneration in the personal testimonies of our listeners. May you in turn, dear friends, be filled with this hope as we prepare to celebrate the coming in the flesh of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In His name
