Dear friends

“For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night" (Ps. 90. v. 4). Can we begin the new millenium with a better perspective on time than this one? Moreover, are we, Christians, prepared to proclaim the Gospel for another thousand years if the Lord so wills? Speaking to his disciples who asked him about the signs that would mark the end of the ages (Mark 13), He gave them a thorough description of these signs, but also inserted something else: a command to preach the Gospel to all nations (v. 10). We are therefore not mere passive onlookers of the signs of the end of the ages, but active participants in the unfolding of the history of mankind, working not against God, but falling in His plan. If our present history can be seen as an ongoing battle against Satan, then we are the soldiers fighting on the battlefield, under the banner of a victorious leader: for the battle of Redemption has already been won at Calvary. Our task is merely to make manifest to the nations that the victory has been won…

That is how “Foi et Vie Réformées” envisages its task at the beginning of this year. Every letter that we receive from listeners or correspondents witnesses that the reign of Satan is fading away. Slowly but surely, light replaces darkness, despite appearances. Those called to believe get to know Jesus-Christ through His Spirit and grow in the knowledge of their Savior and Lord.

Looking back at what He accomplished last year, we can be both satisfied and thankful: the range of our programmes increased in different parts of the world, especially in Africa. The programmes of “Foi et Vie Réformées” are in demand in regions plagued by civil war, poverty, Aids and corruption. Why? Because we are not contented to repeat slogans. Rather we take the riches of the Bible as inspired Word of God seriously, and we invite our listeners and readers to do the same.

A major breakthrough occurred when, upon my return to South Africa after a 6 weeks visit abroad (in the United States among others), I heard that five Christian FM radio stations in France gladly accepted to broadcast “Foi et Vie Réformées” on a regular base. They are situated in Strasbourg, Perpignan, in the region of Grenoble (French Alps) and in Corsica, (the Mediterranean island where Napoleon was born). I pray that other stations will also open their doors to these programmes, because God also has His chosen ones in this highly secularized country in moral decay. Shall we leave the door open to the rise of Islam, to bizarre and dangerous sects, to the reign of the occult, or shall we witness that Christ came to reconcile mankind with God the Father?

You are our partners, our faithful supporters in prayer. By so doing you too fall in God’s battle plan. Our prayer, at “Foi et Vie Réformées” is that you will take this partnership seriously. Without your help, we cannot achieve much. Why? Because God does not send His Church on the battlefield as a series of individuals disconnected from one another, but as a body animated with the same life, the same Spirit.

May He unite us in His service, and may you be Spirit filled in any service that He expects from you within His Kingdom.

In His name
